The 2020 Manatees: Written Companion

So every year for Make Me A Gamer we do a podcast with our Game of the Year content, and every year I also do a write-up of my games of the year as a companion piece. This year we went over my top 5 of the year in the podcast itself, and here I’m gonna expand to my top 10 along with a few honorable mentions.

Nothing else to say, just good ol’ year-end summary of games content coming. Here we go!

Episode 66 – Iron Chef Link

Make Me A Gamer is back with a start to its unofficially labelled season 3! After three months of not recording due to pandemic stress, TMan and HarveyZ are bringing the good gamer times to everyone once again!

This week’s episode is pretty straightforward: we’re just recapping what we’ve been doing for the last three months in the gaming sphere. TMan and HarveyZ both talk about their experiences in Animal Crossing and Minecraft, then HarveyZ digs into his misadventures in Breath of the Wild. Finally TMan wraps up talking a little bit about GTA Online and XCOM: Chimera Squad.

We hope you enjoy and we’ll be back on our regular schedule going forward!

Let’s Talk About SRPGs!

There are a lot of different types of RPGs when it comes to video games. You have your JRPGs, your WRPGs, your CRPGs, your ARPGs and your SRPGs, which can also be TRPGs. And these are just genres: this doesn’t take into account the favorite “with RPG elements” moniker that can be tacked onto any genre. (It’s a racing game with RPG elements! What does that even MEAN?!)

Today I’m going to talk about the SRPG (or TRPG) which is probably not only my favorite RPG genre, but my favorite game genre as well. Mostly because I’ve recently been playing two very good games related to the genre and want to talk about them and why these games make me happy!

This may be the first part in a multi-article series about each kind of RPG – I’m not sure yet. I definitely love all genres of RPG so it wouldn’t be hard for me to wrangle up opinions on all of them. But I make no concrete promises.

Anyway, let’s get started and learn about SRPGs!

Help! I’m Playing XCOM 2 Again…

I have a love-hate relationship with XCOM 2. When it was first announced Firaxis gave the pretty strong impression that the game would not be coming to consoles. And that made sense. Despite XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within both being released on consoles, the game was a much, much bigger seller on PC. Most of their sales and profit had come from PC, while the console release was a dud.

So me being a huge fan of the first game, looked into if my PC could handle it. It turned out that my computer met the bare minimum requirements except for the graphics card. So I upgraded my graphics card so it could also handle the minimum requirements, and then waited patiently for release. And in February 2016 I got to play XCOM 2 on my computer!

And it was a mess.
